Exhibition and educational laboratory – Chiostro Pieve di Sant’Agata
The exhibition documents the main archaeological recoveries of the west part of the Mugello in the long period that goes from prehistory to modern times. The expositive tour is exhibited in two rooms. The first one is dedicated to the very long Paleolithic period, which for the Mugello include findings which go from the most ancient times of 200-300 thousand years ago, up to the most significant ones, able to recall their function and to evolve the environmental and human context in which they had been produced, though a rich series of illustrations of the scenographic description and the reconstruction of the instruments on wooden stands. A great “ line of time" that goes along the walls in a graphic way relates the various periods of human evolution and technology painting out the short period of history in respect to prehistory.
The final prehistoric period that goes from Neolithic to the Metal Age, which precedes the entrance of the Mugello in history, is documented at the beginning of the second room.
The Etruscan and Roman periods follow and then the Middle Ages and modern times, with findings mainly in ceramic.
As regards to the old historic period up to the Middle Ages, the archaeological findings are significantly correlated to the natural network of roads that wind along valleys and ridges and crosses the Apennines according to the North-South main lines which are once again used through times on a more or less identical way.
An adjacent area to the exhibition collects the reconstruction of a prehistoric settlement with dwelling places and other everyday life elements.
The exhibition and reconstruction of the settlement have been conceived with educational principles and as a laboratory suitable to activate involving formative experiences.
