Saturday, May 14 at 17 at the Library of Vicchio will be presented the book by Marco Burrini "The Faentina Railway. Historical and social analysis on the Tosco Romagnola railway", in the presence of the author and the Councillor Franco Vichi.
As a result of the National Unity, the ruling class of the new kingdom began a programme of renewal of rail communications infrastructure, according to a principle already in place in Europe for many decades. After some uncertain realization, in 1879, with the government of the liberal left, the promulgation of a law on the completion of the Italian railway network. On 29 July 1879, with the regency of the Department of Public Works of Alfredo Baccarini, the project of the Faenza-Pontassieve railway was approved, later changed in 1881 in Faenza-Florence, as one of the main lines to be executed over the next decade. Thus began the construction of one of the railway lines still in operation today among the most unique and at the same time controversial of that time. The book traces an economic and social historical profile of what was the railway adventure of Faenza through an unprecedented archive documentation that highlights the colossal engineering enterprise, the difficulties and hardships of those who participated in its realization and the economic interests from which it benefited a small number of shareholders, members of the regional political class.
