The castle was constructed in the 12th century by the family Pazzi whose coat of arms sculptured by Donatello is still to be seen in the courtyard. In the first decades of the 15th century the castle has been extended and in 1465 Andrea del Castagno frescoed the chapel. Following a plot by the Pazzi against Lorenzo il Magnifico in 1478, the castle was confiscated by the Medici. The farm is 400 hectares, 100of which are vineyards.
