The Orchestra Camerata de' Bardi and Lia Brunori Cianti for the Florentine New Year's Eve
On Saturday 5 April 2025, at 9 p.m., the Orchestra of the Scuola di Musica Camerata de' Bardi will perform in the Pieve di Sant'Agata, a hamlet of the municipality of Scarperia and San Piero. The concert, organised by the borough association thanks to the co-participation of the Regional Council of Tuscany, with the collaboration of MU.S.A. and Don Antonio Cigna, is entitled ‘New Year's Eve of the Annunciation in the Pieve di Sant'Agata’.
The majestic Orchestra of the Scuola di Musica Camerata de' Bardi, made up of over 50 elements, conducted by Maestro Sabrina Malavolti Landi, will propose the most famous Renaissance, classical and contemporary pages that are linked to the Annunciation and to the works preserved in the Romanesque Parish Church.
The Orchestra's instrumental welcome, intermezzo and epilogue will be interspersed with speeches by Prof. Lia Brunori Cianti. ssa Lia Brunori Cianti, formerly Art Historian of the Soprintendenza delle Belle Arti e del Paesaggio of Florence and Vice-Director of the Galleria dell'Accademia, currently Director of the Museum of Sacred Art of Sant'Agata, who will lead us to the discovery of the artistic and architectural marvels of the Romanesque Parish Church of Sant'Agata, from the sculpture depicting Saint Agatha from the atelier of Nicola Pisano to the Madonna of the Rosary and Saint Francis Receiving the Stigmata by Simone Sacchettini, to the Announcing Angel and the Announced Virgin, both by artists from the workshop of the Florentine painter Cristofano Allori, a pupil of Bronzino.
This event is therefore intended to enhance the celebrations in memory of the Civil Year that, until the decree issued in 1749 by Grand Duke Francis III of Lorraine, began on 25 March, the day of the Incarnation and relative Annunciation of the Archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary, nine months before the birth of Jesus. The concert-conference promotes the Florentine civic tradition, enhancing our Mugello territory with the rediscovery of the most significant artistic, pictorial and musical works linked to this Catholic festivity in the millenary Pieve santagatese.
Free admission for all citizens.
