The Villa Demidoff park in VagliaThe Villa Demidoff park in VagliaThe territory of the Commune of Vaglia has been inhabited since remote times: there had been settlements by the Liguri Magelli and by the Etruscans before the Roman domination. At the beginning of the Christian era the territory had a certain development with the construction of towns around the first Parish Churches, as for example around St. Peter's at Vaglia, which has been notified in a document of 983 signed by Ottone II. And starting at that era and then during the first centuries of the new Millenium the inhabited construction which although different still exists. The Communal territory supported by a Bishop until the 14th century then was passed to the Commune of Florence.

It was included in the district of Santa Maria Novella under the League of Tagliaferro together with other neighbouring areas such as San Piero a Sieve. After a century, in 1551, the League formed the Vicarage of Scarperia for the next four centuries when at the beginning of the 14th century it established itself in the area of the French government. From the 16th century the fate of the territoy of the Commune of Vaglia followed the ones of the big families who ruled Florence, including the Medici (until the death of Gian Gastone in 1737).

In the second half of the 18th century, during the period of Grand-duke Pietro Leopoldo, not only Florence but also Vaglia was greatly developed particularly with the construction of the Reggia Postale Bolognese (a postal road) which substituted the old road which passed by Monte Morello through Poggio Starniano.

The construction of Via Bolognese gave a great impulse not only to private and public housing but also to the local business with the lime quarry which supplied the material for the construction of bridges and walls. Is was also the period when many parish churches were reconstructed or restored by order of the Grand Duke.

The big political changes which changed the face of Europe at that time following the Napoleonic conquests involved Vaglia too; infact after the fall of the Asburgo-Lorena in the first decade of the 19th century, the municipality was formed.
